The religious procession in Svetlogorsk united believers in prayer for the familytranslated

July 13, 2026 · 1 min read

A religious procession dedicated to the holy noble princes Peter and Fevronia of Murom, patrons of family and marriage, took place in Svetlogorsk. Believers with icons, crosses and banners walked in a prayer procession from the Church of St. Cyril of Turov to the Church of the Transfiguration of the Lord, offering chants in honor of the saints of God.

The route of the religious procession ran along the streets of 50 Let Oktyabrya and Lenin. At the Church of the Transfiguration of the Lord, a conciliar prayer for the well-being of families was performed in the open air.

The dean of the Svetlogorsk district, Archpriest Alexander Kisel, addressed the audience. He recalled that a Christian family is a small Church, where love, fidelity and unity are born through daily work, humility and the willingness to sacrifice oneself for the sake of one’s neighbor.

An important event of the holiday was the honoring of married couples who have lived together for more than twenty years. They were presented with memorable gifts as a token of gratitude for their loyalty to their family calling and preservation of Christian values.

The procession ended with a common prayer, uniting the participants in the desire to preserve family traditions based on faith, mutual love and responsibility to each other.

It's good that such a prayer for families was also made in our country. I liked what Father Alexandru said about the family as a small Church - you have to work hard every day, it doesn't come naturally. And honoring those couples with 20+ years together was nice, it shows that it can be done.

Yes, I really liked what Father Alejandro said about the family as a small Church, that love and unity are built with daily work, humility and sacrifice. Here in the hiking group we have several couples who have been there for more than 25 years and they always say the same thing: we have to paddle together every day. I hope we do more processions like this in our parish.

It is good that those couples who have been together for more than 20 years were mentioned. Here in Poltava, such processions were also held for Peter and Fevronia, and always after them, people look at their marriage a little differently - as a daily job, and not just a holiday. Father Oleksandr correctly said about the small Church, that's for sure.

Yes, Taras, it's good that couples who have been together for twenty years or more are celebrated - it's not just a number, but a real school of humility. In our Lviv Oblast, after such moves, many people also begin to notice that the most important thing in a family is daily work, and not only good moments. And in Poltava, did you also give something to spouses or just bless them?

Yes, Christina, twenty years is really a school, where humility comes not from books, but from everyday trifles, like who will yield to whom. Here in Svetlogorsk, couples were given small icons of Peter and Fevronia to hang in the house. And in your Lviv region, after such moves, people often come to the church to consult on how to reconcile, did I confuse something?

Yes, Julia, twenty years is really not about romance from the movies, but about who washes the dishes first after an argument. Here in Odesa, small icons of Peter and Fevronia are also given at similar processions, and people actually hang them above the bed afterwards. And tell me, do you often have people in the Lviv region after such events come specifically with a request for reconciliation, or is it more about a blessing for a new stage?

Yes, Oleg, twenty years is really about who washes the dishes and is silent when you want to reprimand. In our country, after processions, people often come to us for a blessing for a new stage, especially young couples. And in Odessa, do those icons really help? Do they just hang for beauty?
