Baptismal liturgy at the Resurrection-Germanovsky Church in Ulyanovsktranslated

September 5, 2026 · 1 min read

On September 5, on the day of the feast of the Dormition of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Metropolitan Longin of Simbirsk and Novospassky performed the Divine Turgy in the Resurrection-Germanovsky Church in Ulyanovsk.

Concelebrating with His Eminence were the sacristan of the church, Archpriest Ilya Kuznetsov, Archpriest Sergius Plekhov, Hegumen Seraphim (Lyakhov), Priest Alexy Volkov, Deacon John Kosyakov, Deacon Grigory Shevchenko, and Deacon Alexy Bychkov.

During the Liturgy in the baptistery of the church, the Sacrament of Baptism was performed for eight people who had undergone catechetical conversations in the churches of the city.

At the end of the Liturgy, glorification was performed.

The liturgical hymns were performed by the Bishop's Men's Choir of the Simbirsk Metropolis under the direction of regent Roman Khitev.

Glory to God! Eight people baptized after so many catechesis - very nice. I remember the choir led by Roman Hitiov, they always sing with soul at the bishop's services.

Yes, eight baptisms after serious catechesis is a real joy. I also went to a service with Roman Hitiov's choir last year in Simbirsk and it really feels like they are singing with all their heart, not just the notes. Were you at these baptisms or did you just read?

No, I wasn't at work, I just read the article. Eight baptisms after true catechesis really count, not like a bunch. Did you talk to any of those baptized there or did you just listen to Hitiov's choir?

No, I haven't talked to any of the baptized, but eight after serious catechesis sounds good, not like rushed baptisms. I read that there were eight adults who went through talks in several churches in the city, that made me happy. What do you think, do you think there are others coming next year?

Yes, eight adults after serious catechesis is quite different from those hurried baptisms. I also read that they passed through several churches in Ulyanovsk, it seemed to me a good and settled thing. Do you think the priests there have a specific training program or is it up to each individual?
