On the eve of the day of remembrance of St. Sergius of Radonezh - September 7, 2026 - a book exhibition from the series “The Life of Wonderful Families” - “RADONEZH” opened at the State Educational Institution Secondary School No. 4 in Brest.
The Monk Sergius of Radonezh came from a pious and noble family of Rostov boyars, many of whose members became glorified as saints.
Immediate relatives and holy relatives
Saints Cyril and Mary († ca. 1337) are the parents of Saint Sergius (in the world - Bartholomew), as well as his brothers Stephen, Peter and sister Anna. At the end of their lives they received the schema at the Intercession Monastery in Khotkovo, where they were buried. Canonized by the Russian Orthodox Church in 1992.
St. Stephen is the elder brother of St. Sergius. After the death of his wife, he took monastic vows at the Trinity-Sergius Monastery, was an associate of his brother, and later became abbot of the Moscow Epiphany Monastery and a confidant of Metropolitan Alexy.
Peter is the younger brother of St. Sergius, who was married. Less information about his descendants and life has been preserved, but his name is also recorded in the ancient Rogozhsky and monastic synodics of the family.
