On October 12, the Moscow Theological Academy held the annual All-Russian Intercession Scientific Conference. The theme of this year’s plenary session—“The Synodal Translation: Theological and Church-Historical Significance in the Context of the History of Russian Biblical Studies”—is timed to coincide with the 150th anniversary of the Synodal Translation of the Bible. The cleric of the Resurrection Cathedral in Vichuga, Deacon Sergiy Bezzubov, took part in the conference. He spoke at the church history section with a report “Alexei Shashin and the Orthodox mission among the Old Believers of the Vichuga region at the end of the 19th century.”
The report was devoted to the study of the Orthodox mission among the Old Believers of the Vichuga region of the Kineshma district of the Kostroma province (today the Vichuga municipal district of the Ivanovo region) at the end of the 19th century and the role in it of the physically blind Orthodox missionary Alexei Egorovich Shashin.
