"Technologies change, societies change and languages change. However, Christ remains the same yesterday, today and forever, and His Gospel remains always new and renewing", Archbishop Joachim of Roman and Bacău told the participants of the Bacăuani Orthodox Youth Meeting on Wednesday.

After participating in the interactive workshops that focused on the theme of family and community, hosted by the "Vasile Alecsandri" University in Bacău, the participants met with the local mayor and Vicar Bishop Teofil Trotușanul at the "Radu Beligan" Summer Theater in Bacău.

The meeting of the hierarch with the young people of the diocese took place on Wednesday, September 3, 2026. Photo: Archdiocese of Romanian and Bacău Starting from the meaning of the word "enthusiasm", which refers to the presence and work of God in man, the Most Reverend Father Joachim urged the young people to keep their power to search, to dream and to transform the world, but giving them a direction based on the values of the Gospel.

Thanks for this article. Interestingly, the hierarch spoke about the importance of "enthusiasm" and said that technology changes, but Christ remains the same. Every day on my route, I see how young people are busy on their phones and have little time for family or church. It would be good if they held another meeting on this topic in Baku.

Vakhtang, that's what worries me too. When my son comes home from school, the first thing he does is the phone, it's hard to talk. It would be nice if they held such a meeting again in Baku, but this time with more practical advice on how to bring young people back to real life.

The bit about enthusiasm coming from God living in us really stuck with me. My high-school kids at youth group are glued to their phones the second the bell rings, just like Vakhtangi described. It would be great if we could bring something like this to Portland with a few simple ideas on setting family screen rules that actually work.

Yes, this about the enthusiasm from God in man is strong. In our kitchen, after a workshop with young people, I also noticed that when they put their phones aside, they suddenly start asking about life and family. I wonder if in Bacău, after such a meeting, anyone tried to do something practical in the parish, such as cooking together or a garden for families.

Vakhtang, you are right, even when I sell my goods, I see how they talk on the phone and there is less family conversation. It would be good if an example of football was given at the meeting in Baku - how to play as a team in real life, not on the screen. What do you think, do they do something practical for this at school?

True, Vakhtang, this explanation of enthusiasm made me think too. Children in my class often talk that the phone is "necessary for learning", but in the evening they just watch TV as a family. It would be good if teachers were invited to the next meeting in Baku, what little tricks we use in school.

It's true, Lela, this explanation of enthusiasm made me think well too. My son is also often told that he "needs his phone for class" but in the evening he just scrolls. It would be great to invite teachers, what little tricks do you use at school - share with us what works best?
