CHICAGO (RNS) — La première chose qu'Audrey Luhmann fait en se réveillant est de vérifier son téléphone pour les rapports concernant les actions d'immigration fédérales dans la région de Chicago. Mère de huit enfants et chrétienne fervente, Luhmann et sa famille font partie d'un réseau de bénévoles suivant et documentant les actions d'application fédérale depuis septembre 2025, lorsque l'administration Trump a lancé « Operation Midway Blitz », campagne de déportations de masse.

« Chaque jour depuis septembre est une journée d'incertitude, explique-t-elle. Nous ne savons pas si nous serons chez nous dans une heure. »

Entre documenter ce qu'elle décrit comme « tout ce qui est illégal » observé lors des actions d'application, y compris des arrestations sans mandat judiciaire, l'utilisation de la force et des infractions routières, Luhmann collecte également nourriture, vêtements et autres fournitures pour les familles immigrées et les personnes libérées de détention. Elle s'occupe occasionnellement d'un bébé dont le père a été déporté et dont la mère a récemment reçu un diagnostic de cancer.

Ses deux fils adolescents, Ben et Sam, ont également voyagé à Minneapolis après le meurtre de Renee Good pour documenter les actions de l'ICE.
