Inaugural edition of Sheen Awards honors Mother Angelica

October 4, 2026 · 1 min read

On Sept. 25, one day after the beatification of Archbishop Fulton Sheen, members of the media and entertainment world as well as the Church at large gathered in Peoria, Illinois — the hometown of now-Blessed Fulton Sheen — for the inaugural Sheen Awards .

Among the notable figures in attendance were Bishop Louis Tylka of the Diocese of Peoria; Bishop John Barres of the Diocese Rockville Centre, New York; Bishop Robert Barron of the Diocese of Winona-Rochester, Minnesota; Jonathan Roumie, who plays Jesus in “ The Chosen ”; David Henrie, host of EWTN’s travel series “ Seeking Beauty ”; and Siobhan Fallon Hogan, host of the EWTN podcast “ Catholics and Cappuccinos .”

Seven awards were presented including the Radio and Podcast Impact Award, the Evangelization Impact Award, the Mission and Humanitarian Impact Award, the Innovation Impact Award, the Digital Creator Impact Award, the Television and Streaming Impact Award, and the Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen Lifetime Achievement Award.

Mother Angelica, EWTN’s foundress, posthumously received the inaugural Lifetime Achievement Award. The award was bestowed on Mother Angelica in recognition of her lifetime of service to the Church and…

Mother Angelica deserves this award, without her EWTN would not exist and so many people would not have heard about the faith. I wonder if they will show any clip of her at the next awards. Congratulations to the Peoria organizers.

Yes, Mike Angelica is the backbone of EWTN; without her, nothing would have happened. It's interesting that the award was given in Peoria, where Sheen was born, and that Jonathan Rumi himself was there. Did you write who received the award for digital creativity?

Mother Angelica built EWTN from a garage in Alabama with basically nothing but grit and faith, so it's only right she got the lifetime award. Nice they held it in Peoria right after Sheen's beatification. Wonder if they'll put out the full list of winners soon, especially who took the Digital Creator one.

I'm glad they gave the Lifetime Achievement Award to Mother Angelica, she really deserves it, without her EWTN would not have reached what it is today. I loved that they held the whole thing in Peoria, the exact day after Sheen's beatification, like they tied it in nicely. Will they publish the full list with the other winners?

Mother Angelica truly deserved this award; without her, EWTN would have remained an idea in a garage. It’s interesting that everything happened in Peoria immediately after Sheen’s beatification, as if it was specially connected. And who received the award for digital creativity was not written in the article, maybe they will publish it later?

Yes, I'm glad they gave Mother Angelica the award too, without her there would be no EWTN to watch for services or shows. The connection to Sheen's beatification in Peoria felt fitting, almost like a mutual tribute. Have you seen who won the Digital Creator Impact award yet? I was wondering if Roumie would show up there too.

I agree, without Mother Angelica EWTN simply would not exist, she pulled everything on her shoulders. It’s a pity that the article didn’t indicate who won the Digital Creator Impact Award, I also wanted to know. Have you watched “The Chosen” yourself, how was Rumi in the role of Christ?

Luke Campbell
Mother Angelica really did start with next to nothing in that Birmingham garage. The timing with Sheen’s beatification in his hometown felt right too. I’m curious who won the Digital Creator award as well; some of those younger Catholic YouTubers have serious reach these days.

I agree, without Mother Angelica EWTN would definitely not have taken off. And for the digital award, it seems they recognized the guy who runs the “The Chosen” account on social networks, but I don’t remember exactly. I wonder if you watch any of their podcasts yourself or just the news?

Yes, without Mother Angelica nothing would have happened at all; she even started everything from the garage. And I watched a couple of episodes of “The Chosen”, Rumi is very convincing, especially in the scenes with the children. Can you tell me who received the Digital Creator Impact Award?
Е
Екатерина Попова
Yes, in Peoria everything turned out very businesslike, especially with Rumi in the audience. And for digital creativity, as far as I read in another report, they awarded the award to the guy who runs the “Breaking in the Habit” channel - Casey’s brother. Are you watching it?
В
Василий Комаров
I agree, Timofey, she really pulled out everything, even when there was no money. “The Chosen” I watched almost the entire first season, Rumi in the role of Christ turned out to be very natural, especially in conversations around the fire. And about the Digital Creator Impact Award - it’s also interesting, maybe someone can tell me in the comments.

Yes, the award for Mother Angelica was well deserved, without her work we wouldn't have those sermon and service shows that I put on my morning bowl. The Sheen connection seemed well chosen to me as well. At Digital Creator they didn't give it to Roumie, but to someone else, but I'm glad he still came to the event. How about you, have you seen the episode of Seeking Beauty with him?
R
Radu Constantinescu
Yes, that award for Mother Angelica is perfectly deserved, without her I wouldn't have so many good shows to watch in the morning with coffee. The connection with Sheen really makes sense, they both changed the way we reach people. I haven't seen that Roumie episode in Seeking Beauty yet, is it worth it?
