Maramureș Day is celebrated on August 15translated

Maramureș Day is celebrated annually on August 15, based on Law no. 133/2025. The purpose of the celebration is to promote the historical, cultural and spiritual identity of one of the most representative regions of Romania.

The date of mid-August was chosen because it recalls a document issued on August 15, 1391 by the Chancellery of King Sigismund of Luxembourg by which Maramureș was officially recognized as an autonomous Romanian entity.

The initiators of the celebration emphasized that "not only a recognition of the identity and values ​​of this land, but also an opportunity for national and international promotion".

The legislative framework allows public authorities and institutions, along with cultural, educational and religious organizations from the country and abroad, to organize events dedicated to the valorization of the Maramuresian heritage.

Cultural events The cultural events organized on the occasion of Maramureș Day bring to the fore the living heritage of the place: folk dances, traditional music, parades of the Maramureș port, craft fairs and interactive workshops.
