Orthodox hierarchs from France and Benelux will organize on September 12, in Paris, a day of prayer and reflection dedicated to the protection of Creation, according to the website Orthodoxie.com.

The demonstration will take place at the "Holy Archangels" Cathedral of the Metropolis of Western and Southern Europe, starting at 16:00.

The activity is organized by the Assembly of Orthodox Bishops of France (AEOF) and the Benelux Orthodox Bishops' Conference (CEOB), under the banner "And God saw that they were all good" (Genesis 1, 31).

Dialogue about the protection of Creation The program will begin with a prayer of thanksgiving, followed by welcoming messages addressed to the participants by Metropolitan Dimitrie of France and Metropolitan Athenagoras of Belgium and the Exarch of the Netherlands and Luxembourg (Ecumenical Patriarchate).

From 16:45, lectures, a round table and discussions on the theme of the protection of Creation are scheduled. The end of the meeting will be marked by the speech of His Holiness Father Joseph, Metropolitan of Western and Southern Europe, scheduled at 18:30.

The day of prayer will continue with the Great Vespers service, from 19:00, officiated by the Most Reverend Father...

Mă bucur că se face asta la Catedrala Sfinții Arhangheli din Paris, cu Mitropolitul Iosif care încheie la 18:30. Tema din Facerea 1,31 e simplă și bună – „și Dumnezeu a văzut că toate erau bune”. Oare vor vorbi și despre ce putem face concret noi, la scară mică, în grădinile și curțile noastre?

Yes, that Genesis 1:31 line is straightforward and hits home. I hope the roundtable after 4:45 gets into the small stuff we can actually do, like Ilie said, composting in the backyard or cutting back on plastic in the kitchen. Our parish garden here in Pittsburgh has taught me how quick even a few tomato plants make you think twice about waste.
