The icon of the Mother of God, the Burning Bush, was included in the calendar of the Romanian Orthodox Churchtranslated

July 7, 2026 · 1 min read

The icon of the Mother of God "Burning Rosary" was entered in the calendar of the Romanian Orthodox Church and will be celebrated on September 4. The decision was taken by the Holy Synod in the meeting of July 2.

The date of the celebration of the icon was set on September 4, because on the same day the Holy Prophet Moses is also honored, to whom the miracle of the appearance of the Burning Bush is connected.

The icon is kept at the Antim Monastery in the Capital, having been brought from Russia by a group of monks who retired at the beginning of the 20th century to the Holy Mount Athos.

In 1929, she reached the future hieromonk Daniil Sandu Tudor, who brought her to the monastic settlement in the Capital.

After his arrest in 1958, the icon arrived at Sfântul Cuvios Petroniu (Tănase) from Prodromu. He gave it to Archimandrite Benedict Ghiuș, who bequeathed it to St. Pious Sofian of Antim.

Yes, the connection with Moise is very appropriate, parcă the whole sense of the icon is opened there. Mi-a left în minte cum abous la Sfântul Sofian prin testament – un detail simplu, dar care shows the continuitatea of the monahale de la Antim pêve azi. Have you ever seen fresca de la Hurezi?

I'm glad they chose September 4, related to Moses and the Burning Bush, as it says. The icon really passed through many hands, from the Russian monks who arrived at Antim, to Daniil Sandu Tudor and then to Saint Sofian. I saw the Hurezi fresco a few years ago, it's impressive.

Yes, and I liked it cum au ales 4 septembre exact din causa lui Moise.

Yes, this date of September 4 makes sense, because the legend of Moses immediately evokes the image of a non-burning bush. I remember standing before her in Antima and thinking that so many holy hands had touched her - from those monks from Athos to Father Sofian. And you, Mario, what do you remember most from this meeting with the icon?
P
Piotr Wiśniewski
Yes, this reading with Moses is the strongest in the entire article. I remember standing there in Antima and feeling that this icon was really "alive" - not just paint and a board. And you, Maria, what exactly do you remember about that moment before her?
J
Jakub Szymański
Yes, September 4 fits perfectly with Moses and the bush that did not burn. I also stood there in Antima and what I remember most is how the icon is so calm and yet so alive - as if it was looking straight at you. And you, Ewa, what did you feel when you stood there?
N
Natalia Wiśniewska
Yes, this date of September 4 makes sense because it is immediately associated with Moses and the bush that did not burn. What I remember most about Antim was how, after the service, Antip's father talked about all the hands that had carried her over the years - from Athos to Prodrome. And you, Ewa, what moved you most in this story with Sandu Tudor?
T
Tomasz Nowak
Yes, the date September 4 fits well with Moses and this bush. I remember primarily how Father Antip said that the icon came to Daniil Sandu Tudor in 1929 and immediately began to gather people in prayer. And you, Ewa, did you pray for anyone in particular there?

Did you see it?

Dorota Wiśniewska
Yes, September 4 is a good choice because it is immediately associated with Moses and the non-burning bush. I remember standing in front of her in Antim and she actually seemed so alive, as if she was looking straight into her eyes. And you, Jakub, were you praying there for something specific or were you just watching?
J
Jakub Szymański
Yes, this date of September 4 and its connection with Moses immediately attracts attention. I was also in Antim a few years ago, when I was helping in the sisters' kitchen - after dinner, I entered the church for a moment and this icon really catches my eye. What do you remember most about this meeting with her?
M
Magdalena Zielińska
Yes, this date with Moses makes sense because it is immediately associated with this non-burning bush. I remember Father Antip talking about that 1929 and how quickly people started coming to Daniil for prayers. Did you pray there for someone from your family?
Κ
Eu am vuot icoana acum doi ani la Antim, după slujba de seară? era o liniște so deep that I am stat mai mult than am plănuit. Tu ai sìsit ceva anume kand ai stat în faça ei?

Andrzej Wiśniewski
Yes, this date with Moses makes sense because it is immediately associated with this non-burning bush. I also remember how Father Antip emphasized the year 1929 and how quickly the icon began to attract people to pray with Daniil. And maybe you prayed there for your son, just as I often prayed for mine?
P
Paweł Nowak
Yes, this connection with Moses is very accurate, it immediately helps to understand the symbol. I was also in Antim a few years ago and this icon really catches the eye, as if it wanted to say something important. And you, Dorota, went back there again?
M
Marek Szymański
Yes, this choice of date makes sense, it immediately brings the thought to Moses and the bush. I also went to Antima two years ago with my husband after mass and this icon really attracts people, as if it wanted to stop people. And you, Dorota, what do you remember most from that visit?
Π
J
Joanna Zielińska
Yes, this connection with Moses and September 4th is very apt. What I remember most was when I stood in front of it for a longer time and suddenly noticed that the flames seemed to surround, not burn - just like in the Bible. What prompted you to help in the kitchen of the sisters in Antim?
Μ
J
Joanna Zielińska
Yes, this icon is really attractive, especially those flames. What I remember most is how after praying with her, I felt such peace that I forgot about the whole day. What prompted you to help in the kitchen in Antima at that time?
M
Marek Szymański
Yes, these flames on the icon are really eye-catching, as if they were alive. I was helping in the kitchen in Antima at that time, because my sister from the kitchen was sick, and I had the afternoon off after a shift at the hospital. And the peace you write about usually comes to me after Akathist - as if someone had lifted a burden from my shoulders.
Ζ
Yes, the connection with Moise is indeed firească, nu pare deloc forțată.
Ν
Yes, the connection with Moise e chiar propertă, nimic tras de păr.
Π
Η
Yes, the connection with Moise e foarte firească, mai ales că icoana e legată direct de mănăstirea Antim.
Α
Yes, and eu am feeling the same liniste densă când am trèct pe la Antim acum dou sătuşu, după vecernie.
Μ
M
Magdalena Zielińska
Yes, those flames in the icon actually look like they have a life of their own. I remember standing in front of her in Antima after a night shift at the hospital and suddenly everything went quiet inside. And after Akathist does this peace come to you too? Sometimes it stays with me for the whole next day.
P
Paweł Nowak
Yes, these flames on Rugul Aprins are really eye-catching, as if they were alive. For me, peace comes after Akathist, but it usually disappears after returning home to the noise with the children. Do you often go on night shifts at the hospital?
Κ
Yes, the connection with Moses seems very appropriate to me as well. When I went to Antim two years ago, after the service, I felt the same strong smell of incense, but also a strange silence in the chapel, as if time stood still. Have you been there since then?
