Hundreds of faithful welcomed Patriarch of Serbia to Ljubljana

Patriarch Porfirije of Serbia was formally welcomed on Saturday, September 12, at the Church of Saints Cyril and Methodius in Ljubljana, where he is visiting to mark the church’s 90th anniversary.

Several hundred faithful attended the solemn doxology, together with hierarchs of the Serbian Orthodox Church. Bishop Kirilo of Buenos Aires and South and Central America, Administrator of the Diocese of Zagreb-Ljubljana, welcomed the Patriarch and referred to the history of the church and the Serbian Orthodox presence in Slovenia.

Archbishop Stanislav Zore of Ljubljana and Vladimir Roganović, Director of Serbia’s Directorate for Cooperation with Churches and Religious Communities, were also present.

Addressing the faithful, Patriarch Porfirije spoke about his close personal connection with Ljubljana and recalled that he celebrated his first Divine Liturgy as a hierarch of the Zagreb-Ljubljana Diocese at the same church.

“When I come here, I truly feel that I am coming home, that I am coming among brothers and sisters,” Patriarch Porfirije said.
