Yes, that's really true. My own grandmother always told us how faith and a strong will got her through the difficult post-war years without ever becoming bitter. It's nice that stories like this are now being written down.

My grandmother also always said that only faith and persistence helped her after the war, when she and her four children farmed the land near Hajnówka. She never complained, only on Sundays she went to church and baked bread for her neighbors. It's good that they write down such stories, because in a few years no one will remember them.
