Good article. My grandfather worked at a bakery in Bucharest and still, with a modest salary, he managed to buy a studio apartment in Ferentari where we raised three children. The house is a good gift from God, but when we lost it in the crisis in '98, I clearly saw that it is not her that saves us, but He. Thanks for remembering this.

My grandfather also coped with simple labor - he worked all his life at a fish processing plant in Rostov, but still managed to get an apartment in the center. A home is truly a gift, thank God, but when everything around was falling apart in the 90s, I realized that we can only hold on in Him. Thanks for the article, well written.

Thank you, Georgiy, your story is also spot on. My late husband worked at a factory in Krasnodar all his life, and he and I only got our two-room apartment in the 80s - we were happy like children. In the 90s, everything really relied on God and the garden, without this they would not have pulled it off. And in Rostov, at the fish processing plant, there was probably that same smell? 😊

The deceased and I also only got our one-room apartment in Moscow at the end of the 80s after he worked at the factory, and in the 90s the vegetable garden at the dacha near Sergiev Posad helped us out a lot. My grandfather also worked all his life in St. Petersburg at a factory, but they only got an apartment in the early 90s, and they certainly wouldn’t have lived without a vegetable garden near Luga. And now in Krasnodar, how do you cope without your own land? Do you get everything from the market? 😊
