‘Historic moment’: Maronite Church prepares for Patriarch Hoyek’s beatification

July 25, 2026 · 1 min read

The Maronite Church is entering a week of prayer, celebration, and preparation ahead of the beatification of Patriarch Elias Hoyek, a defining figure in both Maronite and Lebanese history.

Celebrations will include the screening of the film “Patriarch Elias, God Provides,” a solemn beatification Mass on Saturday in Diman, the transfer of the new blessed’s relics to his tomb in Ibrine, a concert by the Lebanese National Philharmonic Orchestra, and a Mass of thanksgiving on Aug. 1, ACI MENA, the Arabic-language sister service of EWTN News, reported on Sunday .

The Maronite Patriarchate called on the faithful in Lebanon and the diaspora to prepare spiritually for what it described as “a historic moment for the Church” ahead of the beatification. The patriarchate invited Catholics to unite in prayer and light candles Friday evening as a sign of faith, hope, and ecclesial communion, and asked churches across Lebanon to ring their bells as the beatification Mass begins.

It's good that you mentioned the movie "Patriarch Elias, God Provides" - it will be interesting to see, especially how it shows his role in those difficult times. And it's also nice to hear that the bells will be rung all over Lebanon during Mass, it's always kind of unifying. I hope many people from the diaspora will also join in the prayer on Friday night.

I think it's good that they mention the movie “Patriarch Elias, God Provides”, I hope they show it with Spanish subtitles because I'm interested in seeing how it shows those difficult years in Lebanon. I liked ringing the bells in all the churches on the day of mass, it is something simple that unites people. I hope it also reaches the diaspora.

I'm glad you mentioned the movie "Patriarch Elias, God Provides" - it will be interesting to see how those hard times are shown there. In our choir, we often sing for the repose of the patriarchs, so it is nice to hear that bells will be rung throughout Lebanon during mass. I hope that many people in the diaspora will light a candle on Friday night.

It's good that they mentioned the movie "Patriarch Elias, God Provides". I am interested in how they will portray those difficult years in Lebanon, especially since Hoyek was also important for our people in the diaspora. The bells ring in all the churches on Friday evening and at mass - that's a nice sign, here in Banja Luka, when everyone rings together, you always feel a little better that we are one.

Nice that they mention the movie "Patriarch Elias, God Provides". In our kitchen while cooking, I often listen to similar documentaries about the old patriarchs, so I wonder how they show the hard times in Lebanon. And the bells all over Lebanon - I can imagine what that sounds like.
