Is it a sin to listen to Christian black metal?translated

October 14, 2026 · 1 min read

Reader question:

Hello. Is it a sin to listen to Christian black metal (unblack metal)? I'm a metalhead, this music helps me fight my sins. I try to look for godly lyrics and bands, but black metal is a rather anti-God genre. Recently I became acquainted with its type - unblack metal: the rough sound and extreme vocals are preserved, but instead of satanic lyrics - songs about Christ and the Gospel. Is it a sin to listen to such a genre if Christ is praised in it?

Priest's answer:

Priest Evgeniy CHEBYKIN

Hello, Alexander.

In this case, it is important to be aware that in such works the texts play an important, but by no means decisive role, because the music itself and everything connected with it also carries a certain semantic load.

Please try to analyze what specific feelings and emotions you experience while listening to such songs? Do you want to pray after them, do good deeds, love your neighbor as yourself, and so on? Or do slightly different desires arise in your soul? I am sure that if you, Alexander, ask yourself these questions and answer them as honestly as possible...
