Greek FM Gerapetritis visits Greek Embassy during South Korea trip

Greek Foreign Minister George Gerapetritis visited the Greek Embassy in Seoul during his trip to South Korea. During the visit, he met with the Ambassador and the staff of the mission, according to a post by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on X.

Gerapetritis also visited the Joint Security Area (JSA) in the Demilitarized Zone, where he was briefed on the work of the United Nations Command.

“The visit highlighted the enduring bonds between Greece and the Republic of Korea, forged through Greece’s immediate response to the United Nations’ call by contributing thousands of servicemen to the Korean War,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a post on X.

“Their courage and sacrifice remain a lasting symbol of the two countries’ shared commitment to freedom and peace.”

Interestingly, the Greeks immediately responded to the UN's call and sent thousands of soldiers to the Korean War. I never thought about how closely their history is connected with South Korea. And it was probably nice to see our own people at the embassy after such a trip through the DMZ.

It is interesting that the Greeks really reacted quickly - they sent an expeditionary force in 1950, although they themselves had only just recovered from the civil war. And in the DMZ, you probably get goosebumps when you stand and listen to about that war. Polina, where did you find out about this, from the news or did you read it before?

Yes, almost ten thousand is a big price to pay after our war, for sure. I, too, only saw from the footage how everything was going according to order there at the border. As for the diplomat, he is now in Seoul, and recently sent a couple of photos from there.
