Greek Education Minister backs Archbishop Apostolos, highlights ties with diaspora in Canada

Greek Minister of Education, Religious Affairs and Sports Sofia Zacharaki expressed her support for the new Archbishop of Canada, Apostolos, following his enthronement at the Greek Orthodox Cathedral of Saint Nicholas in Toronto.

Zacharaki attended the enthronement on Saturday, September 19, together with Foreign Minister Giorgos Gerapetritis, representing Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and the Greek government. Permanent Deputy Foreign Minister Ambassador Alexandra Papadopoulou was also present.

In a social media post, Zacharaki described the enthronement as the beginning of a new chapter for the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Canada, while highlighting the legacy of former Archbishop Sotirios.

“With his many years of dedicated service, he supported the Church, the Greek diaspora, the Greek language and education,” she said of Archbishop Sotirios.
