The head of the Don Metropolitanate met with students of the Rostov-on-Don branch of VGIK named after. S. A. Gerasimovatranslated

On October 28, 2026, the Head of the Don Metropolis, Metropolitan of Rostov and Novocherkassk Mercury, visited the Rostov-on-Don branch of the All-Russian State University of Cinematography named after S. A. Gerasimov (VGIK), where he met with students of the departments of secondary vocational and higher education, course curators and teaching staff.

Before the meeting, the director of the Rostov-on-Don branch of VGIK, Alexander Rezvanov, gave Metropolitan Mercury a tour of the Museum of Film Technology and Cinema History.

The communication took place in the format of an open dialogue. Students asked questions about spiritual and moral meanings in cinema, the Orthodox understanding of man and time, the search for expressive means to reveal the historical and spiritual heritage of the Don region, as well as forgiveness and overcoming life’s difficulties.

During the conversation, Metropolitan Mercury touched on the topics of searching for oneself and truth, the meaning of faith and honesty in professional activities. Particular attention was paid to the problems of modern cinema and theater, in which artists often lose the ability to see the main thing in a person, and not the secondary.
