The foundations of a Roman bridge built on the Danube almost 1,700 years ago have come to the surface, against the background of the extremely low level of the river, informs Reuters.

"Constantine's Bridge" was built at the beginning of the fourth century and inaugurated in 328 by Emperor Constantine the Great. The construction connected the ancient fortress of Ulpia Oescus, located near the current village of Gigen in Bulgaria, to Sucidava, on the current territory of Romania.

With a length of over two kilometers, the construction is considered one of the longest bridges of Antiquity. The bridge, however, had a relatively short existence, being considered largely destroyed around 367.
