Moderator's address to the meeting of the WCC Commission on Faith and Order meeting in Lund, Sweden from 25-31 October 2026.
Eminences, Excellences, dear sisters and brothers in Christ,
One year ago, almost to the day, we gathered in the Egyptian desert, at Wadi El Natrun, for the Sixth World Conference on Faith and Order. It was a remarkable occasion, bringing together Christians from across the world, representing many ecclesial traditions, churches, generations and contexts. We met in a place marked by centuries of prayer and monastic life, asking a question that has accompanied the Faith and Order movement throughout its history: Where now for visible unity?
In the Ecumenical Affirmation adopted at the end of the conference, we stated that “ the visible unity of the Church is not only a theological aspiration but also a gospel imperative.” The call to seek visible unity together remains as urgent as ever. I would like to begin by expressing my gratitude for what happened in Egypt, and for all that has followed.
Looking back, I believe we can…
