The Romanian Orthodox Church will celebrate the family of the Holy Hierarch Basil the Great on Sunday for the first time.
According to the synaxar, on July 19 Saints Basil and Emilia, the parents of the great hierarch, his grandmother, Saint Macrina the Elder, as well as five of their children are celebrated: Saint Hierarch Basil the Great, Saint Hierarch Gregory of Nyssa, Saint Hierarch Peter of Sevastia, Saint Pious Navcratius and Saint Pious Macrina.
The celebration was instituted in the context of the commemorative year 2026, the family of St. Basil the Great being illustrated on the representative icon of this year.
Patterns of Christian living The family of Saint Basil the Great is considered one of the most famous models of Christian living in the history of the Church. The parents raised ten children in the right faith and virtuous life, and eight of the family members were canonized.
