This day in Russian history - Today we celebrate the end of the Caucasian War and the captivity of Shamiltranslated

On this day, August 25, 1859, Russian troops under the command of Prince A.I. Baryatinsky captured the last stronghold of resistance in the Caucasus - the village of Gunib. The legendary Shamil, who fought with Russia for more than twenty years, became a prisoner of the Russian Tsar.
