The day of August 1/14 is often called the “First Savior”, since in August two more holidays dedicated to the Savior are celebrated: the Transfiguration of the Lord and the Feast of the Image Not Made by Hands. According to legend, this holiday, which falls around the time of the Epiphany of Ancient Rus', has special significance for the Russian Orthodox Church, and therefore the rite of blessing of water is performed on this day.
