Sunday of Romanian Migrants: The Church prays for the 5.7 million Romanians in the diasporatranslated

The Romanian Orthodox Church remembers in prayer, on the first Sunday after the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, the Romanians settled abroad. Approximately 5.7 million Romanians live in the diaspora, according to data provided by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The initiative was initially established in 2006 by His Beatitude Father Daniel, then Metropolitan of Moldova and Bucovina, and was later extended to the level of the entire Patriarchate by the decision of the Holy Synod of February 25-26, 2009.

True spiritual homes In the message sent this year on the occasion of Romanian Migrants' Sunday, His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel highlighted the Church's care for Romanians who live far from the country and for their families.

"The Church carries in prayer all her sons and daughters who, for various reasons or in difficult life circumstances, have left their native places to settle, temporarily or permanently, in another country."

It's good to hear the Church keeps praying for all those 5.7 million Romanians abroad. My own parish here in Chicago has a few Romanian families who come on feast days, and you can tell how much it means to them to have their own services in Romanian. The part about the parishes becoming real spiritual homes rings true.
