Spiritual origins of the ministry: Kamchatka tax officials touched the history of Orthodoxy on the day the inspectorate was createdtranslated

On July 1, 2026, on the day of the formation of the Kamchatka Tax Inspectorate, representatives of the Federal Tax Service of Russia in the Kamchatka Territory took part in a prayer service for the beginning of a good cause in the Trinity Cathedral. After the service, priest Roman Nikitin gave the guests a tour of the Museum of Orthodoxy, talking about the inextricable connection of church history with the development of Russian statehood on the Far Eastern borders.

A special place in the narrative is occupied by the history of the missionary feat in Kamchatka, which began more than three centuries ago. The key figure in this ministry was Metropolitan Nestor (Anisimov), the legendary “apostle of Kamchatka.” Arriving on the peninsula in 1907, he not only baptized local peoples (Koryaks, Evens, Itelmens) and translated the Gospel for them, but also built schools, outpatient clinics and a leper colony. In 1916, he became the first bishop of the Kamchatka diocese, whose see was located on the peninsula.
