July 25, 2026 · 1 min read

The Church commemorates the Holy 165 Fathers of the Fifth Ecumenical Council. This Council was convoked by the Byzantine Emperor Justinian I in Constantinople in 535.

It condemned monophysitism and refuted the doctrines of Origen, which divided the Christians.

The Church also commemorates the Righteous Olympias the Deaconess, of Constantinople, who, after the death of her husband, dedicated herself to the social work of the Church and supported the Archbishop of Constantinople, St. Ioannis Chrysostomos.

She became the heir to great wealth, which she began distributing to all the needy, the poor, the orphaned, and the widowed, and remained committed to her mission until her death.

The Church also commemorates solemnly the Dormition of the Righteous Anna, Mother of the Most Holy Theotokos. Saint Anna, the wife of Joachim, who was sterile, The Church also commemorates the birth of the Virgin Mary, whom she dedicated to the Lord, at the age of 3.

Then Saint Anna spent the rest of her life with prayer and fasting. She reposed to the Lord at the age of 70. She became a benefactor of humankind, by giving birth to Miriam, the Mother of Jesus Christ, the world’s Savior.

Saint Anne's story always makes me think of how patient she was with her infertility. At the age of 70 he had already seen the Virgin born and had taken her to the church when she was three years old. I stick with the fact that he spent the rest of his life in prayer and fasting, without making a sound.

Saint Anne is truly an example of patience. When I read that at the age of 70 she already saw how her daughter gave birth to the Savior of the world, I think how quietly she lived after that - only prayer and fasting, without boasting. Thanks for the reminder, Sofia, that's exactly what stuck in my mind about patience.

I still like the fact that Anna and Joakim brought the three-year-old Mary to the church and then she spent the rest of her life in prayer and fasting. He reached the age of 70 and did not write a single word about himself. Sofia, you also mentioned this patience, it also remained in my heart.
