Diocesan Cathedral Welcomes Miraculous Icon

CHICAGO, IL [DOM] – The Diocesan Cathedral of Chicago and the Midwest, Holy Trinity Cathedral, Chicago, IL,  welcomed the miraculous Iveron Hawaiian Icon of the Mother of God on Monday, September 7, the Prefeast of the Nativity of the Theotokos.

The Icon was greeted by Priest Alexander Koranda, Cathedral Dean and Priest Philip Maikkula and brought to the center of the Cathedral. Divine Liturgy was served by Fr. Alexander, Priest Nectarios Yangson, the Guardian of the Icon, Fr. Philip, and Deacon Seraphim Andov. The Cathedral Choir was directed by Reader Vladimir Lymar.

Following the celebration of the Divine Liturgy, the Akathist to the Hawaiian Icon was served. His Eminence Archbishop Daniel of Chicago and the Diocese of the Midwest offered his prayers before the Holy Icon.

At the conclusion of the Akathist, Fr. Nectarios offered a few words on the gospel reading and the miracles that he has recently witnessed during the Holy Icon’s travels. The faithful had the opportunity to venerate the Icon and be anointed with the holy myrrh that is streaming from the Icon.
