The Russian charitable foundation "Aleksya" reported on the recovery of five children-beneficiaries after bone marrow and hematopoietic stem cell transplants.

Over the years, the children battled rare diseases that threatened disability or death, but with the involvement of the foundation and the help of its donors, funds were quickly raised for their treatment. This was reported to "Foma" magazine by the press service of the Aleksya Foundation in connection with the World Marrow Donor Day, celebrated on September 22.

Four boys and one girl received treatment: Zakharch M. with X-linked adrenoleukodystrophy; Sasha M. with the most aggressive childhood cerebral form of the same disease; Danil P. with leukodystrophy; Leon S., who was diagnosed in early childhood with a very rare primary immunodeficiency; and Yessenia M. with the Gulé syndrome.

It is noted that in all five cases, finding suitable bone marrow donors in Russia proved impossible, so the families turned to international registries.

The charitable foundation "Aleksya" also assisted in this process. Its supervisors helped coordinate interactions with foreign centers and accompanied beneficiaries through all stages of searching for a compatible donor.
