Memorial Day of Hieromartyr Neophyte Lyubimovtranslated

On October 30, the Orthodox Church honors the memory of the Hieromartyr Neophytos (Lyubimov), presbyter of Moscow, whose life and pastoral path is inextricably linked with the Samara land. The future saint was born in 1846 in the village of Mordovskie Lipyagi, Samara district (now the territory of the city of Novokuibyshevsk). He received his initial theological education at the Samara Theological School, after which he successfully graduated from the Samara Theological Seminary. As a particularly gifted graduate, Neophyt Porfirievich was sent at government expense to the Kyiv Theological Academy. After completing an academic course with a candidate of theology degree, he served in Simbirsk for more than thirty years. There the pastor combined parish work with teaching, and also became famous as a zealous preacher and missionary. At the beginning of the 20th century, Archpriest Neophyt Lyubimov was transferred to Moscow, where he became rector of the Church of St. Spyridon of Trimifuntsky on the Goat Swamp.
