Researcher Oana Mădălina Popescu, librarian-archivist at the Romanian Academy Library, presented, in an interview granted to Radio UZPR, the contribution to the heritage of the cultural institution made by Saint Hierarch Joseph the Merciful.
"Iosif Naniescu's donations substantially, quantitatively and qualitatively enriched the funds and collections of the library of the Romanian Academy", said the specialist.
Oana Mădălina Popescu recalled that the Romanian Academy was preceded by the Romanian Literary Society, established in 1866 and later transformed into the Romanian Academic Society. The main objectives of the institution were the cultivation of the national language, history, literature, sciences and arts.
Bishop Dionisie Romano, another scholarly hierarch and donor of the institution, had an important role in the establishment of the Academy Library.
