Church of Greece honors Apostle Paul at Athens’ Areopagus

June 30, 2026 · 1 min read

The Church of Greece commemorated the Apostle Paul, the Apostle to the Nations, on Monday evening at the historic Hill of the Areopagus in Athens, where the Apostle delivered his renowned sermon to the Athenians nearly two millennia ago.

Archbishop Ieronymos II of Athens and All Greece presided over the Great Festal Vespers, attended by hierarchs, clergy, monastics, and numerous faithful.

During the service, Bishop Chrysostomos of Evripos delivered the festal homily, while Bishop Barnabas of Christoupolis, Protosyncellus of the Holy Archdiocese of Athens, served as master of ceremonies.

Following the Vespers service, Archbishop Ieronymos addressed the faithful from the Hill of the Areopagus, offering wishes for physical and spiritual health and for divine enlightenment.

“In the world in which we live, people communicate more, but often do not truly encounter one another,” the Archbishop noted, emphasizing the enduring relevance of the Apostle Paul’s message. He further stressed that “the Church is called to become a place of dialogue, reconciliation, and hope,” adding that “Christ is the way, the truth, and the life for every age and every culture.”
