What happened to Rublev’s “Trinity” and why the icon was removed from the cathedral

The icon of Andrei Rublev “Holy Trinity” was temporarily removed from the iconostasis of the Trinity Cathedral of the Trinity-Sergius Lavra, located in the center of the city of Sergiev Posad, Moscow region.  Now the 15th-century monument is in restoration workshops on the territory of the monastery, where specialists are checking its condition. According to RBC sources, the climatic display case in which the icon was kept is being examined at the same time: it may require repairs. The Moscow Patriarchate calls what is happening a planned inspection. Art critic Ksenia Korobeynikova reported that there was indeed a failure of the climate system and lasted about two weeks, and there was damage on the icon itself, which she called repairable. The official results of the current survey have not yet been published.

The icon was removed from the iconostasis and moved to the workshops

RBC reported on September 14 that the “Trinity” was temporarily removed from the iconostasis of the Trinity Cathedral, citing a source in the professional community and an interlocutor at the Trinity-Sergius Lavra.

Good thing they moved her to the workshops in time. For two weeks the air conditioning system was broken, that's no joke for such an old icon. I hope they fix the window and everything goes back to its place without any more problems.
