Academician Ioan-Aurel Pop highlighted the contribution of church books to the formation of the Romanian language, on Thursday, during the Cultural Fairs at the Sucevean Moldovița Monastery.
The special guest of this year's edition gave the lecture "The language of ancient boilers or about religious communication in the Middle Ages", where he explained the role of preaching, translations and old religious prints in the development of the Romanian cultural language and in the transmission of faith to the people.
The academician evoked the contribution of some fundamental personalities of the old Romanian culture, such as the deacon Coresi and the Saints Metropolitans Varlaam and Dosoftei, whose works made the Gospel message accessible in the language of the people and strengthened the unity of language and faith of the Romanians.
A special place was occupied by the "Romanian book of learning", known as "Cazania lui Varlaam", which acad. Ioan-Aurel Pop presented it as a testimony of the spiritual and cultural unity of the Romanians, beyond the political borders of the era.
