Cause opens for beatification of Prayer and Life Workshops founder

Father Ignacio Larrañaga Orbegozo, a Capuchin priest and founder of the Prayer and Life Workshops , has formally begun his journey toward beatification and canonization. On Oct. 6, the Mexican Archdiocese of Guadalajara opened the diocesan phase of his cause.
During the ceremony held at the archdiocesan curia, the “nihil obstat” (“no objection”) from the Vaticanʼs Dicastery for the Causes of Saints was read, along with the decree from Guadalajara Cardinal Archbishop Francisco Robles Ortega, ordering the opening of the process.

The decree noted that the archdiocese has the authority to conduct this cause, as Larrañaga passed away within its territory in 2013. In accordance with the 2007 Vatican instruction Sanctorum Mater , which governs diocesan procedures for canonization causes, it is generally the responsibility of the bishop of the diocese where the servant of God died to conduct this stage of the process.
