Cardinal Parolin urges renewed Iran talks as Ukraine peace remains elusive

On the sidelines of a book presentation, the Cardinal Secretary of State expresses hope for a return to negotiations and dialogue with Iran, "for the good of the country and of the world," as well as in Gaza. He also reaffirms the importance of the Church's persistent message of peace, and its role to overcome divisions through dialogue, diplomacy and reconciliation.

I hope these talks with Iran go forward, because peace in the region will also help our own people who travel there for business. Cardinal Parolin rightly talks about dialogue, but in Ukraine, unfortunately, we still do not see anything tangible. The Church is doing everything it can, that's for sure.

You are right George, talks with Iran may calm things down and make it easier for those coming and going for business there. On the issue of Ukraine, I agree that there is still nothing concrete in sight, even though the Church does not stop talking about dialogue. Do you think that diplomacy needs more pressure from third parties or something else?

Yes Maria, diplomacy needs more pressure from third parties, especially from countries that have economic interests in the region. In Iran the talks might actually help the traders coming and going, as you say. What do you think, should the Church propose specific channels of dialogue or stick to the general message?
