July 8, 2026 · 1 min read

The people of Bucharest are invited to participate in the summer celebration of the Chapel of the National Cathedral, the celebration of the Icon of the Mother of God Prodromită, honored on July 12.

The patron saint's program will begin on Saturday morning, on the eve of the holiday, with the Akathist of the Icon of the Mother of God Prodromitsa, celebrated from 08:00. The service will be followed by the Holy Liturgy and Parastas. From 17:00, Vespers, Litia and Matins will be celebrated.

On Sunday, the liturgical program will begin with the Water Consecration Service and continue with the Akathist of the Icon of Our Lady Prodromiţa.

The Divine Liturgy will be officiated by the Most Reverend Father Timotei Prahoveanul, Vicar Bishop of the Archdiocese of Bucharest. From 6:00 p.m., the Chapel of the Icon of Our Lady of Prodromitsa will be celebrated.

The place of worship has in its heritage a copy of the Icon of Our Lady of Prodomita and a fragment of the relics of Saint John the Golden Mouth, celebrated on November 13.

The other sanctuaries of the Chapel of the Cathedral of the Salvation of the Nation are: Resurrection of the Lord (the main church) and Saint John the Golden Mouth.

Thanks for the information. Interestingly, there is also a particle of the relics of St. John Chrysostom, who is remembered on November 13th. I would go to the akathist on Saturday morning if I can get out early.

Thanks for the detailed analysis. It is interesting that they also keep a particle of the relics of St. John Chrysostom - right next to the icon of Prodromitsa. If I can get out early on Saturday, I would also like to go to the akathist at 8 am, it’s probably calm and homely there.

Yes, the relics of John Chrysostom are really there next to the icon, and this is very touching. At 8 am there are usually not many people, the atmosphere is calm, like in a small home church. If you get out, tell me later how it went - maybe next time I’ll show up earlier.
