Bookfest Chisinau 2026 started on Wednesday in the capital of the Republic of Moldova, bringing together publishing houses, writers and cultural institutions from Romania and the Republic of Moldova. For five days, the public is invited to book launches, debates and meetings with authors, in a program dedicated to promoting reading and strengthening the cultural dialogue between the two states.

The opening of Bookfest was attended by representatives of the authorities and cultural institutions from Romania and the Republic of Moldova. The Minister of Culture of the Republic of Moldova, Dan Perciun, highlighted the role of the salon in the proximity of the Romanian cultural space and in the promotion of the book in the Romanian language.

"As a reader and a writer, I come every time to discover new titles, to see what is the editorial, literary process, what appears," highlighted writer Ivan Pilchin.

A book is always a good thing, I'm glad that publishers from both sides of the Prut come together. Ivan Pilchin is right, the most interesting thing is to see how a new book is created, from manuscript to printing. We don't have such big fairs here in Nis, but at least we have a couple of good bookstores where you can find something in Romanian.
