Bishop Paisie of Sinaia: God placed the relics of a humble monk in the heart of Bucharest

“God ordained that the relics of a humble monk should be placed in the heart of the capital,” Patriarchal Auxiliary Bishop Paisie of Sinaia said on Monday, July 13.

His Grace celebrated the Divine Liturgy at the Patriarchal Cathedral on the feast commemorating the Translation of the Relics of St Demetrius the New to Bucharest.

The hierarch explained that the veneration of the Saint does not merely commemorate a historical event, but reveals God’s providential care for His Church.

“In the life of the Church, the feasts of the saints do not call us merely to remember events from the past, but to discover how God continues to work in the life of the Church and in the life of every believer.”

“What the Lord accomplished through His grace in those who loved Him does not belong only to the past. It remains alive in the Church and continually bears fruit in the lives of the faithful,” His Grace added.

The Gospel lived in the life of St Demetrius Reflecting on the Gospel reading of the day, Bishop Paisie said that the life of St Demetrius the New represents a fulfilment of the Saviour’s call to holiness.

Thank you, Bishop Paisiy. It is well said that the relics of a simple monk ended up in the very heart of Bucharest - this really shows how the Lord arranges everything according to His providence. Here in Minsk, too, many people go to the relics of saints not just to “remember”, but for help in ordinary matters, and you always feel that this is alive.

Yes, Bishop Paisios said it well. The remains of a simple monk in the center of the capital show that God does not look only at great saints but also at the humble. In Heraklion we see the same, people pass by the church for a candle and leave more quietly.

Thank you, Anna. It was well noted about Minsk - here in Samara, too, people go to the relics of St. Alexy with the simplest requests: some for health, some for work. This is truly a living thing, and not just history. Do you often visit certain relics in Minsk?

Yes, Paisius said it right about the humble monk. On the bus I drive, I see people every day who enter the church for a while and come out calmer, as you say about Heraklion. It's nice that God works like this in the common people.
