Bishop Paisie of Sinaia: God placed the relics of a humble monk in the heart of Bucharest

“God ordained that the relics of a humble monk should be placed in the heart of the capital,” Patriarchal Auxiliary Bishop Paisie of Sinaia said on Monday, July 13.

His Grace celebrated the Divine Liturgy at the Patriarchal Cathedral on the feast commemorating the Translation of the Relics of St Demetrius the New to Bucharest.

The hierarch explained that the veneration of the Saint does not merely commemorate a historical event, but reveals God’s providential care for His Church.

“In the life of the Church, the feasts of the saints do not call us merely to remember events from the past, but to discover how God continues to work in the life of the Church and in the life of every believer.”

“What the Lord accomplished through His grace in those who loved Him does not belong only to the past. It remains alive in the Church and continually bears fruit in the lives of the faithful,” His Grace added.

The Gospel lived in the life of St Demetrius Reflecting on the Gospel reading of the day, Bishop Paisie said that the life of St Demetrius the New represents a fulfilment of the Saviour’s call to holiness.
