Belgorod will celebrate the 115th anniversary of the canonization and the 35th anniversary of the second discovery of the relics of St. Joasaphtranslated

With the blessing of Metropolitan John of Belgorod and Stary Oskol, on September 16–17, Belgorod will host celebrations dedicated to the 115th anniversary of the canonization of St. Joasaph, Bishop of Belgorod, wonderworker, and the 35th anniversary of the second discovery of his holy relics. The central event will be the XV Orthodox exhibition “Angel of St. Belogorye”, which will open on September 16 at the Belexpocenter exhibition and congress complex. Saint Joasaph (in the world - Joachim Gorlenko) ruled the Belgorod diocese from 1748 to 1754. Popular veneration began immediately after his death, but official canonization took place only on September 4, 1911 - 157 years later. The celebrations in Belgorod attracted about 200 thousand pilgrims with a city population of forty thousand people. In 1991, the relics of the saint, considered lost during the years of atheistic persecution, were miraculously found in the attic of the Kazan Cathedral in Leningrad and solemnly returned to Belgorod.
