Belgorod celebrated the 83rd anniversary of the liberation from the Nazi invaderstranslated

With the blessing of Metropolitan John of Belgorod and Stary Oskol, on August 5 Belgorod celebrates the 83rd anniversary of its liberation from the Nazi invaders. According to tradition, the festive events began with prayer singing and the Divine Liturgy in the Pochaev Church in the city of Belgorod. The day before, on the occasion of City Day and in recognition of the work for the benefit of the residents of Belgorod and St. Belogorye, Metropolitan John presented bishop's awards to employees of the Belgorod city administration. After the service, members of the Regional Government, deputies of the Regional Duma, and city leaders honored the memory of the fallen with a minute of silence and laid flowers and wreaths at the “Grieving Mother” memorial complex on Belgorod’s Cathedral Square and at the “City of Military Glory” stele. Also on the occasion of City Day in the central park of culture and recreation named after V.I. Lenin, a new chess gazebo was opened - a unique art object manufactured at the legendary Kasli plant with more than 270 years of history. The structure, measuring 9x12 meters, is decorated with columns in the form of sculptural chess pieces, created according to original sketches by artists and sculptors.
