Bavarian PM Markus Söder awarded Golden Cross by Greek Orthodox Metropolis of Germany

Bavarian Prime Minister Dr. Markus Söder was awarded the Golden Cross, First Class, of the Greek Orthodox Metropolis of Germany during a ceremony held at the All Saints Greek Orthodox Parish in Munich on Thursday, October 8, 2026.
The distinction, the highest honor bestowed by the Metropolis, recognizes the longstanding ties between Bavaria, Greece and the Greek Orthodox community in Germany.
In a social media post following the ceremony, Söder expressed his gratitude for the award, describing it as both an honor and a responsibility.
“This highest distinction is a great honor and a sign of the close ties between Bavaria, Greece and the Greek Orthodox community,” he stated.
The Bavarian Prime Minister highlighted the longstanding friendship between Bavaria and Greece, pointing to their shared traditions and cultural similarities, including the blue and white colors featured on both flags.
