The archpastor visited the site of the destroyed Holy Cross Church in the Nizhny Novgorod regiontranslated

October 1, 2026 · 1 min read

Prikhody.ru 10/01/2026. Bishop Josiah of Lyskovsky and Lukoyanovsky visited the village of Okinino (Nizhny Novgorod region) - the place where there once stood a wooden church in honor of the Life-giving Cross of the Lord. Nowadays a pillar chapel is installed on this site.

The Bishop toured the area and listened to local residents who are actively involved in preserving the memory of the destroyed church. Recently, proactive villagers installed a historical stand with information about the church and the clergy who served in this parish. Residents continue to collect information and intend to improve the holy place, the press service of the diocese reports.

During the meeting with the flock, the bishop and parishioners jointly determined a work plan for the improvement of the historical territory. The archpastor supported the desire of the residents to restore historical justice and preserve the memory of the shrine for future generations.

Good that the people from Okino have set the historical stage and are now concretely discussing the design of the square. It is nice that Bishop Josaphat came and included them directly in the process. Hopefully, something will come out of the plan so that the children will later still know where the Cross Exaltation Temple once stood.
