July 8, 2026 · 1 min read

On the evening of July 8, 2026, on the eve of the day of remembrance of the Tikhvin Icon of the Mother of God, Archbishop John of Brest and Kobrin performed a polyeleos service in the Cathedral of St. Simeon the Stylite in Brest, co-served by the clergy of the cathedral.

During the service, Archbishop John anointed the faithful with blessed oil.

At the end of the service, His Eminence addressed the believers with an archpastoral word.

Thanks for the report. I always liked how Bishop John takes time to anoint everyone with the oil after the service — it feels like a real pastoral touch. Did many people come out on a weekday evening in Brest?

I am glad to see that Bishop Ioann again anointed everyone with holy oil after the polyoleum service. Here in Kyiv, people are always very moved by this too. And approximately how many believers gathered that evening in the cathedral?

Well said Christopher, that smear of oil after the function shows real care. On the bus I drive, I often hear people from Belarus say how much this bishop's touch stays with them. About how many finally gathered at Simeon Stylitis that night?
