On July 10, 2026, on the birthday of General Pyotr Ivanovich Bagration, an event dedicated to the memory of the outstanding commander was held in the Central State Archive of the Republic of Dagestan.
Among the guests of honor was Archbishop Varlaam of Makhachkala and Derbent.
Director of the Central State Archive of the Republic of Dagestan Olga Vladimirovna Bekaeva presented to the audience materials from the archive funds telling about the life of P.I. Bagration and the history of Kizlyar.
Archbishop Varlaam warmly thanked Olga Vladimirovna and the CGA team for the very important work in preserving historical memory. “It is history that helps us understand who we are, what path we have traveled and where we should direct our steps, and archival documents allow us to find out the truth about our past, about what it was like,” the bishop emphasized.
The archpastor wished the leadership and staff of the Central Archives God's help in their work and expressed hope for the development of cooperation between the diocese and archival workers, including in preparation for a significant date - the 120th anniversary of the Assumption Cathedral of Makhachkala.
