Archbishop of Canada: “Unity should define the new chapter of the Archdiocese”

Unity, youth, education, the Greek language, and the preservation of Greek Orthodox identity were at the center of the inaugural address delivered by the new Archbishop of Canada, Apostolos, in Toronto.

“If there is one word that I would like to define the new chapter of our Archdiocese, it is unity,” the new Archbishop stressed, clarifying that he was not referring to uniformity, but to the unity of different people and gifts within the Church.

“Many members, one body; many gifts, one mission,” was his message to the parishes and communities across Canada.

At the same time, he made clear that he views his enthronement not as assuming secular authority or an honorary position, but as “taking up the Cross of the Lord” and beginning a new mission. As he stressed, a bishop is not called to exercise authority over the people, but to serve them according to the example of Christ.
