Archbishop of Athens: Addiction is a wound that affects society as a whole

On the occasion of “World Day Against Drugs”, Archbishop Ieronymos II of Athens and All Greece issued a statement addressing a deeply pastoral yet strongly social message to the faithful of the Church and to society at large.
In his message, the Archbishop addresses the complex and painful issue of addiction. He highlights the devastating consequences of drugs on individuals’ and families’ lives, as well as the deeper social and existential causes that lead to escape and despair. He also emphasises the need for cooperation between institutions such as the family, education, the state, and the church to prevent addiction, provide treatment, and facilitate social reintegration. Finally, he offers a message of hope and support to those engaged in the daily struggle of recovery.
