Archbishop of Albania: Good doctors and good priests see the human being as a whole

The Orthodox Church of Albania clinic in Tirana is one of the most modern diagnostic and treatment centres in the neighbouring country. Recently, in the presence of Archbishop Ioannis, the surgeon Spyros Prifti took up his post as its new director.

One of the first initiatives launched by the late Archbishop Anastasios of Albania, as soon as he became head of the Autocephalous Orthodox Church of Albania, was to create infrastructure for the medical care of Albanians, Orthodox and non-Orthodox alike, opening his own doors, the doors of his soul, to Christ and to his fellow human beings.

In 1994, Anastasios founded the first Orthodox clinic in Tirana, “Saint Luke”, which in 1999 developed into the state-of-the-art Orthodox Diagnostic Centre “Evangelismos”.

Since then, more than one and a half million people, regardless of religion or nationality, have been examined there, and monthly attendance now stands at approximately 6,000 people.
