Archbishop leads Celebration of St. Herman of Alaska in Chicago

CHICAGO, IL [DOM] – The Orthodox Church in America celebrated the canonization of one of the most beloved saints of America, St. Herman of Alaska, August 8 and August 9. His Eminence Archbishop Daniel of Chicago and the Diocese of the Midwest presided over services for the feast at the Diocesan Cathedral, Holy Trinity Cathedral, Chicago, IL.

On Saturday, August 8, the All Night Vigil was served for the feast of the Resurrection of the Lord and for St. Herman. On Sunday, August 9, His Eminence presided over the liturgy and was assisted by, Priest Alexander Koranda, Cath3edral Dean, Archpriest Tarasiy Maxim, Deacon Paul Garklavs, and Deacon Timothy Heinbokel. The Cathedral Choir was directed by Reader Vladimir Lymar.

During his sermon, the Archbishop talked about the simple and holy life of the Elder of Alaska. The Archbishop participate in the annual pilgrimage to Spruce Island countless times and spoke about it beauty.
