Archbishop Georgios calls for new Approach to Cyprus Issue, defends dialogue with the Vatican

Archbishop Georgios of Cyprus has called for a change in the strategy pursued to safeguard the rights of the Republic of Cyprus, expressing concern that current developments in the Cyprus issue are not leading to meaningful progress.
Speaking to the Cyprus Broadcasting Corporation (RIK), the Archbishop also defended dialogue with the Roman Catholic Church, rejected accusations of concelebration with Catholic clergy, and addressed the controversy surrounding the Monastery of Saint Avvakoum.
Archbishop Calls for Change in Cyprus Strategy Referring to the Cyprus issue, Archbishop Georgios argued that the concessions made so far have failed to produce tangible results.
He expressed reservations about the emphasis placed on opening new crossing points between the government-controlled and Turkish-occupied areas of Cyprus, stressing that such measures should not be confused with a comprehensive settlement.
According to the Archbishop, the current situation risks consolidating the existing realities on the ground rather than bringing the island closer to reunification.
